Who We Are

Mission of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago

Catholic Charities fulfills the Church's role in the mission of charity to anyone in need by providing compassionate, competent and professional services that strengthen and support individuals, families and communities based on the value and dignity of human life.

Mission of the Junior Board

The Junior Board is an organization of adults committed to promoting the compassionate works of Catholic Charities and becoming leaders in the church through effective community action, including volunteer service, social fundraising, and theological exploration.

Our History

The Catholic Charities Junior Board represents a new chapter in the history of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Beginning in 2002, it is an adjunct to the Board of Advisors created to invest community leaders in the mission of Catholic Charities. The goal of the Junior Board is to enable younger benefactors to support Catholic Charities in order to directly execute their service, social and spiritual missions.

The Junior Board is currently comprised of more than 450 young adult members, with countless friends who attend our events and volunteer with us.

Our Membership Profile

The Catholic Charities Junior Board member is traditionally between the ages of 21 and 45. Members’ primary motivation for joining the Junior Board is to become more involved in the work of Catholic Charities and to give back to the community. Successful members share certain other characteristics: the desire to work with others interested in charitable work within a faith-based setting; the desire to connect to the broader secular community; and a renewed interest in personal and spiritual growth.

Many members have established professional careers and recognize this group as a way of gaining momentum in the arena of community service and leadership. Other members are in the initial stages of careers in business, government, education, the arts, and the nonprofit sector – to name a few. There are no professional or education restrictions upon Junior Board membership.
