Refugee Resettlement

For nearly 50 years, Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement Program has assisted people who are unable to return to their home countries due to persecution or repression for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political affiliation.

Each year, Catholic Charities helps hundreds of refugees to transition and acclimate to new lives in the Chicago metropolitan area. In recent years, we have served refugees from Afghanistan, Myanmar (formerly Burma), the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, and Ukraine.

Services offered:

The refugee individuals and families we serve frequently have limited English language proficiency, a lack of formal education, and little or no employment history. Catholic Charities provides case management, employment, and K-12 services to help refugees make the transition to independence and become self-sufficient, contributing members of society.
