The Catholic Charities Emergency Assistance Programs provide individuals and families in crisis with food, clothing, and financial assistance and then help them address barriers to self-sufficiency.
These programs are often the entry point for other services like housing, counseling, job training, benefits screenings, ongoing nutrition assistance, and general referral and advocacy.
The need for these types of services continues to increase, and we hope that with your help, we can make a difference in lives of our neighbors who need it most!! Please consider supporting this worthy cause by coming to the event, donating a prize for our silent auction, or purchasing an ad in our Ad Book.
A few things you should know about Catholic Charities’ Emergency Assistance Programs:
Through the generous support of people like you, this past year, the Emergency Assistance Programs have:
- Provided nearly 2,200,000 meals to individuals in our community.
- Served just under 113,000 clients faced with the unexpected in their lives.
- Provided over 2,800 clients with emergency sheltering when they had nowhere else to turn.
- The 2 million dollars Catholic Charities distributes to prevent homelessness saved 24 million taxpayer dollars that would have been spent on housing for the same number of people in a shelter.
- Catholic Charities assisted more than 1 million people in Cook and Lake counties regardless of religious tradition, ethnicity or social status in 2010 through 162 programs at 157 sites.
- $700,000 is the cost to run Catholic Charities for one day.
Like all our programs, the Emergency Assistance Programs fulfill our mission to
provide charity to anyone in need with compassion, competence
and professionalism.
