NW Senior Services
The Red Tape Cutters/Advocate program is a benefits advocacy program designed to help older persons understand and access benefits and services.
You should contact Red Tape Cutters/Advocate if you:
- Want to learn about government or public benefits eligibility
- Need help organizing paperwork or submitting applications
- Have been denied a benefit without sufficient explanation
Red Tape Cutters/Advocate Can Help You With:
- Circuit Breaker / IL Cares RX
- Food Stamp/Illinois Link Card
- Medical Assistance/"Spend Down"
- Medicare Part D
- Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB)
- Specified Low Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB)
- Tax Exemption and Tax Freeze
- Other Legal & Benefit Programs
How it works
The Benefits Check-Up (BCU) assessment provides a personalized computer review of services for which a senior may be eligible. Specially trained volunteers then assist individuals who need additional assistance through the process of applying for benefits.
Our Advocates and Volunteers will:
- Screen for benefits you may be eligible for
- Clarify the benefits to you
- Assist with paperwork or applications
- Help obtain required documents
- Advocate on your behalf with other involved parties
How Much Does it Cost?
- There is no charge for services
Donations to support the program are always appreciated but service will not be refused or limited in any way if no contribution is made.
