Home Tasting Parties
Host Your Own Mini d’Vine Affair
In preparation for the 9th Annual Catholic Charities d’Vine Affair
You can host a Wine Tasting Party in your home in support of this year’s exciting event.
Last year over $70,000 was raised at nine Home Tasting Parties. The generous donations benefited Catholic Charities innovative Self-Sufficiency Programs.
What is a Home Tasting Party?
Parties hosted in homes featuring a tasting of eight premium wines. Monetary donations are collected in support of the 2009 d’Vine Affair Catholic Charities Self-Sufficiency Programs.
When are they held?
Parties can be held anytime throughout the year.
What are the host duties in advance of the party
- Select a party date. Then invite your friends. Invitation samples and templates are available, but please feel free to format the invitations in your own style.
- Be creative when planning the details for your party. For example, you may chose to plan a simple wine and cheese garden party, a fall buffet, or create a meal around the different wines.
- Explain to your invitees that they will be treated to a tasting of eight fine wines courtesy of Louis Glunz Wines and that this is a fundraising party for Catholic Charities upcoming d’Vine Affair. Ask each guest to make a cash donation to support the event they are attending.
- Plan hors d’oeuvres, tapas, or food of your choice that will be complimented by fine wine.
- Hosts will be provided with the following materials to distribute to guests:
- 8 bottles of premium wines per 12 guests
- Printed descriptions of the wines
- d’Vine Affair tasting glasses
- d’Vine Affair reservation forms for the event on Sunday, January 25, 2009
- Description of the Catholic Charities Family Self-Sufficiency Program
At the party
Explain the Catholic Charities Self-Sufficiency Programs to your guests. If desired, a Catholic Charities representative can attend your event to better explain the work these programs accomplish.
Encourage your guests to attend the d’Vine Affair on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at the Union League Club of Chicago. The reservation forms allow your guests a chance to purchase their tickets at your tasting.
You may conduct the tasting anyway you wish; serve the wines one at a time or make them all available for your guests to taste at will.
Please contact Elizabeth Atchason, Event Coordinator, at (312) 655-912 if you would like to host a party and discuss any further questions about your role as host.
After the party
A pick-up time will be established to collect donations, extra materials and wine glasses after your Home Tasting Party. Guest will receive an acknowledgment letter to thank your guest for their generous donation from Fr. Michael Boland, Administrator, President and CEO of Catholic Charities.
