Summary of Services


Central Information and Referral (CI&R) is the point of entry for clients and others on their behalf who are seeking information, case assessment, emergency assistance, advocacy, linkage and/or referral to appropriate Catholic Charities' programs or community resources. Central Information and Referral completes applications for service in the following programs: Emergency Assistance Program, Family and Aged, and Shelter Services.

St. Blase Service Site:


Emergency Assistance Program (Food Pantry) provides quality food to people coming to our office for assistance. A food package is issued, which contains nonperishable food items for four days of food. This is meant to be a supplemental package until the person can connect with an ongoing food resource.

Family and Aged Services provides professional problem solving, case management and counseling services to families and individuals who are overwhelmed by multiple and varied problems. These problems may include: family violence, sexual abuse, homelessness, grieving, coping with a disability or medical illness, incest, parent-child issues, marriage difficulties or other issues that affect the family's or individual's ability to cope. Initial contact would be through Central Information and Referral.

Suburban Shelter Services/New Hope Apartments provides access to Catholic Charities' individual and family shelters and transitional apartment housing for homeless families from Southwest Suburban Cook County.

Holbrook Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy provides therapy for individuals of all ages, couples and those in relationships. Our professional staff is licensed by the State of Illinois to provide counseling services. Fees for services are available through insurance coverage, private pay or from subsidies based on income and family size if insurance coverage is not possible. Counseling in Spanish is available in some locations. In addition to the Palos Hills office, services are available at SS. Cyril and Methodius in Lemont, Our Lady of the Woods Parish in Orland Park, and St. Stephen, Deacon and Martyr Parish in Tinley Park. By appointment only.

LOSS (Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide) provides services for those who are grieving a death by suicide of a family member or close friend. The LOSS Program offers monthly group meetings at Queen of Martyrs Church in Evergreen Park on the third Sunday of each month. LOSS offers weekly groups for the newly bereaved in 10-week sessions, individual and family counseling and a monthly newsletter.

Maternity and Adoption Services - 312.454.1717 or 1.800.CARE.002 - Adoptive Parents, Maternity and Adoption staff are available for speaking engagements to inform the public about adoption as a positive option.


South Suburban Senior Services provides information on programs and services available in the south suburbs in the townships of Bremen, Calumet, Thornton, Rich and Bloom. Located in Harvey, this center provides case management, assessment and linkages to home-delivered meals, housekeepers, homemakers, adult day care, respite care, senior companions, senior advocacy, money management, Medicare fraud and elder abuse services.

Job Development - A weekly job club assisting persons in search of employment. Clients receive assistance regarding interviewing, resume writing, and learning how to become a valued employee. The client, with the assistance of the developer, will learn to do job searches efficiently. Clients will also be afforded job leads and the resources needed to apply for those jobs and also to problem-solve issues. There will be assistance in setting long-term career goals.
