Statement from USCCB Regarding Impact of National Call In Day and Next Steps
Thursday, March 01, 2018 by Communications
Justice for Immigrants Colleagues and Supporters,

A big THANK YOU to you for all of your work!

The National Call-in to Congress in Support of Dreamers was a rousing success. More than 48,000 calls were made to the Washington, DC, offices of U.S. Senators and Representatives to protect Dreamers. There was also quite a bit of media about the call in day.

This effort would not have been possible without your help in making calls, sharing the call information with your parishes, advocacy networks and community members, and including information about the call-in in your weekly email messages and updates.

We would also like to note the work of many of our JFI partners in their Catholic Action Day at the U.S. Capitol on the 27th, which included participation by Bishop John Stowe of Lexington, Kentucky.

With the Supreme Court's decision on Monday, many are asking what is next in our work to protect Dreamers.

The answer is nothing has changed. Dreamers still need protection and are still facing extreme anxiety and uncertainty about their futures. We must continue to advocate that Congress act now to protect Dreamers through a legislative fix. Please see Bishop Joe Vásquez's statement from yesterday urging Congress to act.

Please also see our updated talking points about why March 5th is still a real deadline.

We will be having our next JFI National Call on March 7th at 3pm. Please be on the look out for the call in information.

Once again, thank you for your help and support.

In Solidarity,
Tony Cube
