Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel recently named 14 city leaders, including Catholic Charities Vice President of Community Development and Outreach Services Angel Gutierrez, as part of his new Grocery Store Task Force.
Chicago, IL – This winter has seen extreme cold weather hit Chicago hard, with temperatures regularly falling well below zero. Thousands have turned to Catholic Charities in Cook and Lake Counties for assistance, leaving the agency in need of warm winter clothing and blankets, food donations, and financial donations to support those needing short term help with rent or paying heating bills.
The Catholic Charities Lake County Women’s Board is kicking up its boots at its annual winter fundraiser on Friday, January 31.  The western-themed event is the Women’s Board kick-off party for its annual spring Art of Caring event, which raises money for Catholic Charities Lake County programs.
More Than 20 Children Need Mentors in Lake County

Waukegan, IL –January is National Mentoring Month and Catholic Charities Lake County Youth Mentorship Program has made impact on a dozen children but more mentors are needed! The program is currently recruiting mentors to work with youth ages 9 to12 who live in Waukegan or attend Waukegan Public School. Individuals who can serve as positive role models, encourage good decision-making and be a friend during times of need are strongly urged to apply.

During this time of year, the days get shorter, there is minimal sunshine, most of our time is spent indoors with limited opportunities for outdoor activities – all this can lead to a state of depression. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), also known as the Winter Blues, can be described by feelings of sadness and depression that happen during the winter months. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, SAD, and its milder form the Winter Blues, affects up to 20% of people in the U.S. every year. Excessive eating or sleeping and weight gain is often associated with the depression.

On Sunday, January 26th, 2014 from 2 to 6 p.m., Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago hosts the 13th Annual d’Vine Affair, a premier wine tasting event held at the Union League Club of Chicago! Benefiting Catholic Charities self-sufficiency programs, the event will feature educational seminars, tastings a silent auction and a prize raffle followed by an optional three-course dinner.
