A Toast to Charity: Catholic Charities Hosts 17th Annual d’Vine Affair
Tuesday, December 19, 2017 by Communications
On Sunday, January 28th, 2018 from 1:30 to 6 p.m., Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago hosts the 17th Annual d’Vine Affair, a premier wine & craft beer tasting event held at the Union League Club of Chicago! Benefiting Catholic Charities self-sufficiency programs, guests can sample wine and beer from around the world.

Expecting more than 450 attendees, the annual event is hosted by Monsignor Michael M. Boland, President of Catholic Charities, along with event founders Joseph and Helen Glunz of Louis Glunz Wines, Inc. and co-chairs Joseph Jr. and Kristin Glunz, and Jon Cohn and Erin Reardon Cohn.

“Thanks to Louis Glunz Wines, Inc. who have partnered with us for 17 years, we’ve been able to assist hundreds of families with the funding the event has received,” says Monsignor Boland. “d’Vine Affair is an event our supporters look forward to each year and the money raised goes directly to a wonderful cause that helps families get back on their feet. We are especially appreciative of the generous sponsorship support of Jones & Cleary Roofing and Sheet Metal, First Bank of Highland Park and Kates Detective & Security, Inc.”

Boasting 250 different wines from around the world and several craft and imported beers, guests will be able to sample wines from more than 90 vintners, and beer from at least 6 breweries many of which will be poured by the vintners and brewers themselves, along with gourmet hors d’oeuvres and desserts.

A Wine-Appreciation Seminar kicks off the afternoon at 1:30 pm, where guests can learn, listen and taste with sommelier, Rachael Lowe of Spiaggia. Lowe has crafted wine programs at some of the most distinguished dining establishments throughout the United States. She has been the Director of Beverage for Spiaggia where she oversees the restaurant, café and private dining events for the past three years. Lowe holds an advanced degree from the Court of Master Sommeliers and has most recently been awarded Food & Wine Magazine’s Sommelier of the Year in 2016.

From 2-6 p.m., guests will enjoy tastings, a wine grab, silent auction and prize raffles, plus a Live Barrel of Wine Auction, which equals 25 cases of wine! The silent auction will showcase an amazing array of wine and other items including a raffle drawing, which will give guests a chance to stock up their own wine cellar! All proceeds from the event will go towards benefiting the self-sufficiency programs. Last year’s event raised over $130,000 for Catholic Charities Self-Sufficiency Programs.

The Union League Club of Chicago is located at 65 W. Jackson. Tickets are $125. For more information, list of participating wineries and breweries or to purchase tickets, please visit
