Heavyweight Boxer Fres Oquendo Donates Winter Clothing to Help Puerto Rican Evacuees
Wednesday, December 20, 2017 by Communications
On Tuesday, December 19, #1 ranked WBA heavyweight boxer Fres “Fast Fres” Oquendo unloaded a truck of winter clothing and coats he and singer Daddy Yankee collected for people impacted by Hurricane Maria in their homeland of Puerto Rico. Due to the overwhelming generosity of their fans, they decided to pay it forward with donations which help evacuees seeking assistance at the City of Chicago's Humboldt Park Multi-Agency Resource Center. They selected Catholic Charities as the beneficiary of the donation.

Over the course of three months, Oquendo collected donations to fill more than 27 trucks to help the people of Puerto Rico. Oquendo donated 17 pallets of winter clothing, coats, and boots to Catholic Charities to distribute to Hurricane Maria evacuees who are now living in Chicago. Catholic Charities will distribute the items at the Humboldt Park Field House Multi-Agency Resource Center.

The resource center was established to assist the hundreds of people from Puerto Rico who have left the island following the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria. Since opening its doors the resource center has assisted 1,157 people in connecting them to resources including food, shelter, clothing, and FEMA assistance.
