National Catholic Call-In Day to Protect Dreamers on February 26
Wednesday, February 21, 2018 by Communications
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has announced a National Catholic Call-In Day to protect Dreamers on Monday, February 26, 2018.

As the protections under DACA are set to expire on March 5, 2018, Catholic Charities joins with the USCCB in asking you to please contact your elected officials in the Federal House and Senate with the following message:

“With the March 5 deadline for DACA looming, I ask once again as your constituent that members of Congress show the leadership necessary to find a just and humane solution for these young people, who daily face mounting anxiety and uncertainty. Protect Dreamers from deportation, provide them a path to citizenship, and avoid any damage to existing protections for families and unaccompanied minors in the process.”

Do you know who your federal elected officials are? The Illinois Board of Elections website can help you identify them. Enter your home address when you visit their website here.

You can then reach their offices by calling the congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121, or find and access their public email addresses through each member’s website, linked here.

“We believe all people deserve our respect and compassion. For 100 years Catholic Charities has welcomed the stranger and we will not turn our backs on those who need us the most right now. We continue to work directly with those young people who are covered by the DACA program and those hoping to extend their coverage. We are prayerful that the deadline to address the decision to end the DACA program will be met with compassion and urgency by our elected leaders to protect those previously covered by DACA and that those leaders work together to pass comprehensive immigration reform. We are grateful for those who support the work we do in the community and the work of our partner agencies and our City leaders who stand with us to welcome the stranger and support our young people who have found themselves in great distress today.”
