Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago was recently awarded a $90,000 grant for SNAP services from the Walmart Foundation through Catholic Charities USA. SNAP, which stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and is formerly known as Food Stamps, helps low-income individuals and families buy the food they need to maintain proper health and nutrition.
Of the grant funds, $50,000 is dedicated for SNAP outreach and $40,000 will be used for SNAP Case Management. CCUSA submits a proposal to the Walmart Foundation on behalf of many Catholic Charities from across the country. Catholic Charities of Chicago has received the grant for the past four consecutive years.
Each year, Catholic Charities of Chicago provides 2,459 screenings at 681 outreach sites in Cook and Lake counties and distributes 38,000 SNAP flyers. There are 1,483 individuals enrolled in the program and it is anticipated that 1,100 people will secure benefits as a result of outreach. Return
