Chi-Town Jazz Festival Fights Hunger, March 7-11
Thursday, February 15, 2018 by Communications

For the ninth year, Chi-Town Jazz Festival founder and artistic director, John Moulder gathers the Chicago jazz community together in its annual commitment to raise funds to relieve hunger in Chicago. According to Feeding America, 1 in 8 struggles with food insecurity in Illinois and 1 in 6 are children who face hunger. Inspired to address this need, Moulder chose two organizations that work to combat hunger.Catholic Charities, one of the nation's largest networks of social service providers, and Care for Real, one of the largest food pantries in Chicago and fiscal sponsor of the Chi-Town Jazz Festival, are the beneficiaries for their efforts to provide hunger relief to individuals in their communities.

Jazz artists donate their time, venues donate their space across Chicagoland, and volunteers donate services to promote the Festival. More than 90% of the money raised through donations, admission, and raffle tickets goes directly to Catholic Charities and Care for Real. 2018 Festival headliners include Bobby Lewis, Tim Fitzgerald, Eric Schneider, Neal Alger, Ernie Denov, Matt Wiffler, Abigail Riccards, Ryan Cohan, Geof Bradfield, Bobby Broom, Greg Ward, Dennis Carroll, Greg Arty, Frieda Lee, Maggie Brown, and Sherry Cothran. The 2018 Festival venues are Jazz Showcase, Andy’s Jazz Club, Winter’s Jazz Club, The Green Mill, and The First Presbyterian Chuch of Evanston. This year’s generous media sponsors are WDCB 90.9FM Public Radio and Chicago Jazz Magazine. The Festival is also charitably sponsored by C & C Power, Andersonville Physical Therapy, Bridgeview Bank, FLATS, Sucher Music Studios, Lady Gregorys’s, Octavio, City Olive, and Orthopaedic Specialists of the North Shore, LLC.
Promotional support also provided by Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Jazz at the Logan.

To date, more than $250,000 has been raised through the Festival to fight hunger. You can join in the mission to help those in need by donating to the Chi-Town Jazz Festival here, attending a performance, or buying raffle tickets. The raffle prize this year will be tickets for two people to the 5-concert jazz series for the 2018-2019 season at Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
