Responsibilities of Interns: Responsible for providing case management and supportive services to single parent families desiring to achieve sustainable economic self –sufficiency, allowing them to meet the basic needs of their families

Special skills required/desired: Position requires advanced time management skills and complex analysis of client problems and situations.  Intern must be skilled at applying appropriate techniques, providing necessary service and/or referring client to appropriate services. 

Interns(s) in this position will learn about: Interns will learn to complete assessments and service plans with highly diverse and complex families.  The position utilizes a strength based approach and other intervention techniques to help families move toward self-sufficiency.

Learning Objectives:

 

1.      The program intern will familiarize self with agency and program policies and procedures through participation in agency meetings and trainings, weekly team meetings, and weekly supervision.

2.      The program intern will experience professional and clinical growth by participating in weekly supervision and program team meetings.

3.      The program intern will carry a caseload of 8-14 program participants through continued participation in training and weekly supervision.

 

Trained/Mentored:  The Family Self-Sufficiency Program Interns are trained and mentored by all program staff with the Master’s level staff member and supervisor serving as the primary supervisors.  The intern will start by shadowing client appointments with staff members.  After the client appointments, the intern will work with the staff member to complete accurate case notes based on the appointment, along with reviewing and updating the client file as appropriate to ensure program compliance standards are being met.  As the intern becomes more knowledgeable and comfortable with shadowing appointments, the intern will begin to lead the appointments with the staff member in the room for guidance when needed.  The staff member will also be able to provide the intern with feedback, including both strengths and areas for growth, after the conclusion of the appointment.  After leading the appointments, the intern will complete the appointment case notes independently and review with the staff member once complete to ensure accuracy and appropriateness.  As the intern masters the skill of leading appointments with the staff in the room, the intern will begin to conduct appointments and complete case notes independently without a staff member present.  While conducting these appointments, staff members will be available for consultation in the program staff area if ever needed.  Once the intern is conducting appointments independently, the intern will become responsible for creating his/her own schedule and will begin to carry his/her own case load. 

The intern will participate in weekly supervision with the Master’s level staff member and/or supervisor for regular guidance, processing of appointments and clinical growth.  The supervision appointments will be utilized to guide the intern’s progress and determine readiness for the next level of training in regards to client appointments.  The intern would be expected to come prepared to supervision meetings with questions and clinical topics to discuss to further professional development.  The intern will also be encouraged to seek guidance and consultation with staff members or supervisor in between weekly supervision when needed. 

 

 

Special Requirements:  Master’s level students are preferred.  Interns will be required to participate in a criminal background check.  Interns are highly encouraged to participate in agency’s New Intern Orientation at Chicago location

Hours available to work: Summer 2017, Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 5pm.  the program also works one Saturday per month from approximately 9am – 12:30pm for the participants; monthly life sills education meetings
