Statement from Monsignor Boland on DACA Rescission
Tuesday, September 05, 2017 by Communications

Monsignor Michael M. Boland, President of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, released the following statement today in response to the announcement of the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“We believe all people deserve our respect and compassion. For 100 years Catholic Charities has welcomed the stranger and we will not turn our backs on those who need us the most right now. We continue to work directly with those young people who are covered by the DACA program and those hoping to extend their coverage.

We are prayerful that the decision to end the DACA program will be met with compassion and urgency by our elected leaders to protect those previously covered by DACA and that those leaders work together to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

We are grateful for those who support the work we do in the community and the work of our partner agencies and our City leaders who stand with us to welcome the stranger and support our young people who have found themselves in great limbo today.”
