The public will have the opportunity to give back to south suburban residents in need on Saturday, February 17, at Catholic Charities 13th annual Compassion in Action Dinner. The dinner will be held at Glenwoodie Golf Club, 19301 State St., in Glenwood, from 6 to 9:30 p.m.  Entertainment will be provided by Michel Domingue & Co: Chicago Jazz.

“This event falls on Valentine’s Day weekend, which we think is the perfect opportunity for people to show they care,” said Christopher Torres, Catholic Charities South Region Director. Each year, the dinner honors several local residents who have dedicated their time and talent to support residents in need in the South Region.

Honored at this year’s dinner will be:

· Kathleen Dujsik of South Chicago Heights will receive the Bert Ellis Award. Kathleen serves as a South Regional Board of Advisors member and inspires others to make service a central part of their lives.

· Pest Management Services/Dan Wondaal of Blue Island will receive the Compassion in Action Award for taking the lead in serving the community through Catholic Charities.

· Rev. Thadeo Mgimba will receive The Servant of God Father Augustus Tolton Award for emulating Father Tolton’s struggle for social justice and dignity of life for all. Rev. Mgimba is the pastor at both Ascension-St. Susanna Parish in Harvey and Saint Gerard Majella Parish in Markham.

Participants will have the opportunity to bid on exciting silent auction items and enjoy pick-a-prize. Reservations are $60 per person or $600 for a table of ten. To purchase tickets, visit or call (708) 333-8379.
