Bishop Goedert Residence


A senior housing facility comprised of 70 one-bedroom apartments and located at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Hines Campus in Chicago’s Western suburbs. Features a front desk that is monitored 24-hours a day, a common area with a library, laundry facilities, mailbox lobby, a crafts room, media room, game room and community room. Applicants must be at least 62 years of age, have a low income and fulfill other Section 202 requirements. Preference status is given to applicants who are veterans. Eligible households pay no more than 30 percent of their adjusted gross income for rent and utilities, excluding telephone. Bishop Goedert is sponsored by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago and financed under the Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation operates the facility.

Cooke's Manor / Hines


Provides a transitional housing program in an alcohol/drug free environment for men, giving priority to veterans. Most residents are homeless due to alcoholism and drug addiction. The facility provides 40 private rooms in a building located on the Veterans Administration campus. The programming includes structured days, balanced meals in a communal dining area, rehabilitative work training, individual counseling, recovery groups, holistic education, pre-employment training, employment opportunities including assistance with resumes and job placement, and assistance with permanent housing placement. Minimal rent is charged. Veterans are required to have completed an inpatient treatment program or had a successful period of sobriety.

Critical Time Intervention-Representative Payee (CTI-RP) Program


The Critical Time Intervention-Representative Payee Program provides intensive housing case management services to the chronically homeless population with documented disabilities. The CTI-RP Program serves individual participants, 40% of whom are veterans. Program participants receive housing search and placement, housing advocacy and education, budgeting, supportive counseling, advocacy, community linkage, as well as job readiness, placement and retention services.

The St. Leo Campus includes the St. Leo Residence, the Pope John Paul II Residence for Disabled Persons, the Auburn Gresham Community-Based Outpatient Clinic run by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and a resource center for job placement and benefits screening. St. Leo Residence provides supportive Housing in 141 studio apartments.

Additionally, the St. Leo Veterans Garden, located directly across from the St. Leo Residence, offers a place of beauty and reflection for the residents of St. Leo and the surrounding neighborhood; it contains five distinct areas honoring each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces: Army, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Navy. A preference for veterans is given for all services.

This clinic is located on the St. Leo Campus for Veterans. The building, which was built by Catholic Charities' Housing Development Corporation, is leased to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). It is staffed by the Department of Veterans Affairs and provides a range of health care and other services exclusively to Veterans of the U.S. Armed Services.

Assists veterans in finding and maintaining employment. Provides services such as job readiness training, resume writing assistance, mock interviews, and job placement counseling. A job readiness and referral counselor works with local businesses to screen applicants who might fill a variety of skill needs.
