Behavioral Health Programs

For every 10 people in a doctor’s office, seven are there seeking care for reasons related to behavioral health, according to the American Medical Association. These issues can include depression, anxiety, nutrition, and drinking or drug use problems.

Behavioral health describes the connection between behaviors and the health and well-being of the body, mind, and spirit, including how behaviors like eating habits, drinking or exercising impact physical or mental health. Catholic Charities’ Behavioral Health program provides counseling to individuals, couples, and families suffering from mental health and substance use challenges. Through our thorough case management services, we have a team in place to offer resources to those finding themselves in need of assistance.

In providing Behavioral Health services, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago complies with the “No Surprises Act,” a federal law which prohibits certain surprise medical bills. Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. In addition:

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment and hospital fees.
  • Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
