Home Care

Home to Stay is a part of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Senior Division. The service offers in-home care for seniors rooted in the values of quality of life, self-determination, personal choice, and individual dignity and worth. This in-home service often referred to as Homemaker Service or Home Care Service, include general non-medical support by supervised homecare aides, or homemakers, who have received specialized training in the provision of in-home service. This service is designed to maintain, strengthen and safeguard the functioning of older adults in their own homes.

Specific service that homecare aides perform for clients include meal planning and preparation; routine housekeeping; home maintenance and repairs; errands; assisting with self-administered medication; assisting with following a special diet plan; assisting with personal care tasks that are non-medical in nature such as bathing, transportation (additional fee) and/or accompanying to medical visits.

The target population for this service is individuals age 60 or older who demonstrate a need for supportive service to maintain their independence in the community.

 Private Pay
Home to Stay Home Care Service is a program for seniors who do not meet the requirements for in-home service through the Illinois Department on Aging. Service provided through Home to Stay Home Care Service includes:

     •   Bathing and dressing
     •   Grooming
     •   Incontinence assistance
     •   Meal preparation for the participant
     •   Transferring to and from wheel chair with assistance
     •   Light housekeeping: sweeping/vacuuming/dusting/light mopping in areas used by the participant
     •   Laundry: washing/drying/folding/light ironing for the participant
     •   Shopping/errands
     •   Escort to shopping/errands/ medical appoints

Home to Stay Home Care Service is non-medical. Caregivers provide assistance with activities of daily living for an assigned client. Services NOT provided includes:

Services Not Provided
     •   Administration of all medication
     •   Taking vital signs
     •   Performing wound care/bandage changes
     •   Handling feeding tubes or other medical devices
     •   Lifting of participants without assistance
     •   Window washing (cleaning/dusting window sills permitted)
     •   Washing walls ( except in small areas that can be easily wiped, e.g., over the sink, over the bathroom sink, or over the stove is acceptable)
     •   Scrubbing the floors
     •   Dusting or cleaning of items that require the use of ladder, step stools or other climbing devises.
     •   Cleaning outside the home (hallways/ stairways/ basements/lawn or yard care)
     •   Caring for extended family members

 Caregiver Training
Appropriate professional training is vital in providing quality and passionate care. Home to Stay caregivers are hired and trained through Catholic Home Care.

Upon hire, caregivers are finger printed and background checked through local and national data bases. Caregivers are not hired until they have cleared all background checks and approved for hire through Human Resources.

Below is a sample of training caregivers receive during 40 hours of new hire training:

     •   Effective communication
     •   Basic Hygiene and Infection Control
     •   Basic Personal and Environmental Safety Practices
     •   Working with Elders
     •   Instrumental Activities of Daily Livings
     •   Assisting with Meal Planning and Preparation
     •   Confidentiality
     •   Abuse and Neglect prevention and reporting

Each year, caregivers receive 12 hours of continual in-service training on a variety of topics including some mentioned above.
Home to Stay Home Care Service is self-pay. Bills are sent out bi-weekly, two week services fee must be paid in advance. Payments can be mailed to:

Home Care Services:
$25.00 per hour Monday – Friday: 8:00am – 8:00pm
$26.00 per hour Saturday – Sunday and Catholic Charities Holidays: 8:00am – 6:00pm

Companion Sitter Services:
$18.00 per hour Monday – Friday: 8:00am – 8:00pm
$19.00 per hour Saturday – Sunday and Catholic Charities Holidays: 8:00am – 6:00pm

The first two weeks of services are to be paid in advance. Subsequent payments are due upon receipt of invoice. The advance payment will be used for final payment or returned if services are rendered. Payments more than 60 days behind may result in suspension or termination of services.
