Witnessing hope and healing

“My client’s journey toward self-forgiveness was inspiring, deepened my understanding of generational trauma, and reminded me there is often more than meets the eye to our clients and their stories.”

— Nicolle Gaudette, Catholic Charities therapist

As a therapist for Catholic Charities, Nicolle supports adults and children facing emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. One man she worked with had served time in prison and was seeking her help as he was dealing with severe depression, suicidal thoughts, and the feeling that his life didn’t matter.

Over the several months she worked with him, Nicolle says she witnessed “a sacred transformation” as his pain eventually made way for strength and self-forgiveness.

“As he learned to offer compassion to his younger self, I found myself reflecting on my own capacity for grace, forgiveness, and humility,” Nicolle says. “His story stays with me as a reminder that healing is always possible, even from the deepest wounds, and that every person is more than the worst thing they’ve done.”
